NCF Visit to Punjab and Maharashtra in October, 2005
Chairman accompanied by some Members of NCF visited the farmers’ fields in cotton, rice, soyabean and other crops in the districts of Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa and Bhatinda and Nabha in Punjab from 16th to 18th October, 2005. The Commission also visited Sunam Grain Market and the cotton Mandi at Mansa. The Commission was accompanied by Dr. G. S. Kalkat, Chairman, Punjab State Farmers’ Commission and Director Agriculture Punjab and other officials. The Commission later held detailed discussions with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Punjab and other senior officials.
The Commission also visited the Vidarbha Region of Maharashtra from 19th to 21st October, 2005 and interacted with the families of farmers who unfortunately had committed suicide and also the fields of farmers growing cotton including Bt. Cotton. The Commission also interacted with the farmers/mediapersons/officials. The Commission was accompanied by Hon’ble Minister of State for Agriculture, Govt. of Maharashtra, Commissioner, Agriculture and other senior officials.
